Fixtures and
Fittings
Where you hang your Swing Seat will
determine which fixture you will require. You may already have an
appropriate fitting installed. Check if for security. It is not
advisable to simply screw a hook into a beam, as with time the constant
swaying and rocking will loosen the thread in the wood and the hook
will then fall out. Children also tend to spin and twirl in a Swing
Seat. This will unwind the hook and the result does not bare thinking
about.
It is advisable to check all fixtures and
fittings from time to time for any signs of ware and replace if required.
The Mounting Bracket is
specifically designed to be bolted onto the side of a beam up to 100 mm
(4 inches) thick. Longer bolts can be used for thicker beams. This
bracket is galvanized and comes with, backing plate, 4 nylock
nuts, 2 120 mm long high tensile threaded rods and stainless
steel shackle. This is available for only NZ$ 25.00
The Webbing Sling is ideal
for a tree branch or can be used over a beam. The sling comes with it's
own sheath to help protect it from the ware and tear
of a branch or beam the addition of a piece of inner tube placed
between the sling and branch or beam will also prolong the life
of the sling. A stainless steel shackle is included.
This is available for only NZ$ 18.50
You can make your own
sling with a sturdy rope. Tie or splice the ends together and
drape the rope over the branch or beam. Shackle the two loops of the
rope together with the stainless
steel ring. The addition of a piece of inner tube (or something
similar) between the branch or beam and rope will help
protect the rope from the abrasive action of the branch or beam.
Like wise this will help protect the branch or beam from the rubbing
of the rope.
Eye Bolts are available
from hardware stores or builder suppliers and can be fitted into your
beam. They come in various sizes and you should pick the size
appropriate
for your situation. It is also advisable when installing an eyebolt
that
you ens
ure the nut is locked onto the thread. This can be done by: 1)
A second nut tightened against the first nut. 2) A nylock nut. 3)
Hitting
the end of the thread slightly with a hammer. This will burr the thread
preventing the nut unwinding.
Stainless Steel Swivel.
When you want to face any direction the addition of a swivel is ideal.
Also
a very practical accessory to the Child's Swing Seat as kids love
to spin around and wind the swing up. This puts additional strain
on the ropes. The Stainless Steel Swivel comes complete with a 6mm
Stainless Steel Shackle for only NZ$ 19.50
